Students in Grade Seven receive instruction in religion, English language arts and reading, math, science and social studies. The following are the summaries of the curriculum covered in each of these subject areas.
Religion
Text – Christ Our life: Jesus The Way, The Truth, The Life. Loyola Press 2009
The theme of the curriculum will be Jesus Christ and the Sacraments. It will be supplemented with companion themes of the liturgical year, Mary, prayer, and the saints. Since the New Testament is the principle source of our knowledge of Jesus, each student will be required to have a Bible of his/her own.
English Language Arts

Sadlier Vocabulary Workshop Level B
Workbook – 6 Traits in Writing
The subject will encompass listening, speaking, writing, grammar, vocabulary, and reading. The text, Language and Literacy, integrates literary and active reading skills via a variety of genres. Authors of both classic and contemporary literature will be included. In addition, two to three novels will be read in class. During each marking period, students will be responsible for several writing pieces of various lengths and types that may require research and the use of technology so that it can be compiled in a portfolio. In order for students to attain good study habits, study skills for note taking, reading, and test taking will be incorporated into the ELA classes.
Math
Text – Pre-Algebra Glencoe McGraw-Hill, 2010.
The course of study will focus on four critical areas: (1) developing understanding of and applying proportional relationships; (2) developing understanding of operations with rational numbers and working with expressions and linear equations; (3) solving problems involving scale drawings and informal geometric constructions, and working with two- and three-dimensional shapes to solve problems involving area, surface area, and volume; and (4) drawing inferences about populations based on samples.
Science
Text – Life Science. Glencoe McGraw Hill, 2008.
The course of study will be Life Science. Students will spend part of the year studying the characteristics of life, cell structure and function and human body systems(Structure and Movement, Nutrients and Digestion, Circulation, Respiration and Excretion, Control and Coordination, Regulation and Reproduction, and Immunity and Disease).
Social Studies
Text — The American Journey. Glencoe McGraw Hill, 2002.
The curriculum will focus on Early American History beginning with the Native Americans and concluding with the outbreak of the Civil War. Various aspects of American history including social and political occurrences, as well as geographical and cultural dimensions, will be investigated.
